Bringing the extended family, a group of old friends or a work team together under one roof is increasingly rare, and increasingly precious. But finding a house that welcomes everyone comfortably, away from the noise and without losing authenticity, isn’t always easy.
If you’re looking for a rural holiday house for groups in Central Portugal, here’s what we think is important to consider and what Casa Margou has to offer.
What to look for in a house for groups
- Generous shared spaces. A good living room and a big table are worth more than lots of bedrooms.
- Flexible bedrooms. A mix of double and shared rooms suits families, friends and children.
- An equipped kitchen. Cooking together is part of the experience.
- Outdoor space to enjoy. Terrace, garden, pool: that’s where the group gets together.
- Real peace and quiet. Far from roads and neighbours, the group can relax.
Casa Margou, in Gourim
Casa Margou is a fully restored schist house at the foot of the Serra da Arada that has kept its original rustic character. It sleeps up to 14 people:
- 2 double bedrooms, 1 shared room with 4 beds and 1 shared room with 6 beds
- 3 bathrooms
- Living and meeting room, with fireplace
- Equipped kitchen, wood-burning stove and oven, barbecue
- Covered terrace, outdoor pools and garden furniture
- Pets allowed; cot and high chair on request
Shared rooms are booked exclusively for your group or family, so you don’t share the house with strangers.
What kind of groups
We welcome families getting together for a special occasion, groups of friends making long-awaited plans, small teams who need a place to think and groups running their own workshops and retreats in yoga, meditation, vegetarian cooking or personal development. The silence of Gourim is the ideal setting for it.
Prices and bookings
The double room costs €69.90 per night and the shared rooms from €29.90 per person per night, VAT included, with a minimum stay of 3 nights. There are special prices for groups, families and longer stays, and we prepare tailored quotes for events, retreats or exclusive use of the house.
See all the details on The House page or write to reservas@casamargou.pt. The last 2 km to the house are covered on foot or by 4×4, and Maria will pick you up in her jeep: see how to get here.
